Custom Backings for Your Lapel Pins
At PinMaxx, we custom design a variety of lapel pins and offer several options for lapel pin backings. These backings can sometimes be called fasteners or clutches as well as attachments. The most common types of pin backs in the marketplace and the ones that we offer include rubber clutch, butterfly clutch, safety pin clasp, deluxe locking, locking jewelry and magnetic backs.1
The most common type of pin backing is the butterfly clutch. This type of pin backing uses two metal prongs that you squeeze to fasten or release the pin. The size of the butterfly clutch backing is discreet and large enough to easily put on the back of a lapel pin but small enough in that it can’t be seen from behind the pin.
The rubber clutch is another affordable pin back option. There are a few differences between a butterfly clutch and a rubber clutch. With a rubber clutch backing there are no prongs to squeeze as with a butterfly clutch, but rather the rubber backing is pushed into the pin’s needlepoint to fasten and release the pin. A rubber clutch can come in a variety of colors to match a pin’s plating or paint job.
If security of your lapel pin is a concern, we recommend upgrading your pin back to a safety pin clasp, deluxe locking pin back, locking jewelry and magnetic pin back.
The most secure type of backing we offer is the deluxe locking pin back. Easy to use, heavy duty, and reliable, this type of pin backing offers a flathead and needs a simple push to secure into the pin.
Another secure pin back is the locking jewelry pin back. Used for securing your lapel pin to all types of garments and products including hats, vests, bags, shirts and more, when using this type of lapel pin backing your pin will be secure. This type of backing is one of the more multifunctional backings.
With a safety pin clasp, this type of backing features a straight metal pin with a clasp that goes through the backside of the pin. This type of backing is more stable than a rubber or butterfly clutch. You will need to prick two holes to insert the pin through before securing it to your clothing. Once secured the pin will stay in place. Using this type of backing can offer larger real estate for the pin message or logo, and allows for a brand or business to really “pop”!
Worried about putting a hole in your garment? We recommend a magnetic backing for your lapel pin. Magnetic backings are great for lapel pins worn on an office tie or work shirt or applied to thinner types of materials which will allow for a strong magnetic attraction to keep the lapel pin securely in place. At PinMaxx, we pride ourselves in designing quality lapel pins with a secure way to fasten them.
